January 2024 - $1,000,000 Settlement – Winslow Taylor served as lead counsel in a Jones Act maritime injury case filed in federal court. Winslow’ client slipped, fell, and broke his wrist on a commercial fishing vessel. The client endured surgical complications which led to numerous other surgeries and a knee replacement.

April 2023 – $2,173,173 recovery for 1,259 Charlotte Police Department Class Members – Taylor & Taylor Attorneys at Law, PLLC, served as lead counsel in Robert Wright, Mark Michalec, and Scott Shipman v. The City of Charlotte, 21-CVS-4063 (Mecklenburg County), a class action arising from weekly payroll deductions of five dollars taken on or after March 16, 2011, from the salaries of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department employees who participated in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Voluntary Police Pledge Fund.
The Pledge Fund was commenced following a Charlotte City Council meeting in January 1966 and functioned for many years as a retirement fund and death benefit fund – pursuant to which weekly deductions were used to fund a one-time payment to a retired fund participant or beneficiary of fund participant who passed – until the fund was ultimately determined to be unsustainable, and deductions terminated by Court Order in Katrina Graue, Jeffrey Estes, Kellie High-Forster, Johnny Jennings, and Michael Burke v. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Voluntary Police Pledge Fund, 19-CVS-13137 (Mecklenburg County) with $174,173.03 held by Wells Fargo in an account of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Voluntary Police Pledge Fund subject to further Court Order.
The Wright action was commenced on March 16, 2021, alleging that the taking of deductions for the Pledge Fund by Charlotte was actionable – initially asserting breach of fiduciary duty and negligent misrepresentation but ultimately asserting ultra vires action by Charlotte – and preliminarily resolved by mediated settlement agreement on September 7, 2022. Following approval of the settlement by the Charlotte City Council, the settlement was approved by Order, Final Approval of Class Settlement, on April 3, 2023, resulting in a gross recovery of $2,173,173.03 for the 1,259 members of the class, with $1,999,000 coming from the City of Charlotte and $174,173.03 subject to court control in the Graue action. January 2022 – Winslow Taylor, in a North Carolina federal court action, represented a swimmer who was struck by the prop of an outboard motorboat near Wilmington, North Carolina. Liability was highly contested. Prior to trial, Winslow successfully negotiated a confidential settlement to compensate his client for the permanent disfigurement, pain, and suffering he client sustained.

December 2021 – Dan Taylor concluded the representation of an irrevocable trust that held shares in a privately owned corporation, which was sold to ESOP.
December 2021 – Winslow Taylor, co-counselor with Ellis Boyle of Knott & Boyle, settled a 42 U.S.C. Section 1983 inmate wrongful death action against the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department for $1,800,000. The action was pending in the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina.
November 2021 – Winslow Taylor represented two individuals who rented a house in the mountains of North Carolina. The rented house featured a zip line for use by renters. Unbeknownst to the renters, the zip line had been improperly installed and maintained. The party riding the defective zip line suffered a broken ankle. Another party, attempting to stop the rider, sprained his hand as a result of his attempt to help the zip line rider. Winslow’s clients obtained settlements of $225,000 and $9000, respectively.
August 2021 – Dan Taylor concluded the representation of a national waste services company in a fee and service dispute with a North Carolina municipality.
July 31, 2021 – Dan Taylor has been named the Triad’s 2022 Lawyer of the Year for Mass Tort Litigation/Class Actions-Defendants by Best Lawyers in America. It is the sixth time Dan has been recognized as a Triad’s Lawyer of the Year, and the second time he has been so recognized for Mass Tort/Class Actions Defendants.
May 2021 – Taylor & Taylor Attorneys at Law, PLLC, represented Sea Glass, LLC, the owner of a 74-foot Power Catamaran yacht that failed to perform as warranted. After substantial negotiations and testing, a settlement was reached, which resulted in the exchange of the Power Catamaran for a larger, better-equipped mono-hull yacht.
March 2021 – Winslow Taylor represented a boat owner in an action pending in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. The boat owner sustained severe injuries when the vessel’s engine room hatch failed. The matter was resolved through a confidential settlement agreement prior to trial, with the client recovering from his physical injuries as well as the pain and suffering he experienced.
December 22, 2020 – Winslow Taylor, representing Atlantic Coast Marine Group, was successful in having the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit dismiss Appellants Richard Hannye and Phoenician Yachts, LTD’s appeal from an order entered by the Honorable Richard E. Myers, II of the Eastern District of North Carolina, denying Appellants’ motion to dismiss Atlantic Coast Marine Group’s action to compel arbitration for lack of personal jurisdiction.

January 28, 2019 – Taylor & Taylor Attorneys at Law, PLLC, Obtains Dismissal with Prejudice of Securities Class Action for Underwriter Clients — Dan Taylor and William J. Sushon of O’Melveny & Myers LLP, New York, New York representing defendants Piper Jaffray & Co., JMP Securities, LLC and Wedbush Securities Inc. in September 2018 obtained a Recommendation by Magistrate Judge Joi Elizabeth Peake that punitive class action claims brought by plaintiff Victor Miriyala et al. pursuant to Sections 11, 12(a) and 15 of the Securities Act of 1933 and Sections 10(b)(5) and 20(a) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 against the defendants be dismissed with prejudice. On January 28, 2019, United States District Judge Catherine C. Eagles accepted the recommendation, and the plaintiffs’ claims were dismissed with prejudice.
January 4, 2019 – Salvage Claim & Attorney’s Fees Awarded to Taylor & Taylor Attorneys at Law, PLLC’s Client— Winslow Taylor, representing Atlantic Coast Marine Group, Inc., prevailed in a hotly contested maritime salvage claim against California base Dutra Group, Owner of the Dredge, Paula Lee. The 250’, 2095 gross ton dredge barge Paula Lee became disabled in the vicinity of the Beaufort Inlet and in the path of tropical storm Julia on September 15, 2016, when Atlantic Coast Marine Group’s assistance was requested. Following a successful salvage operation, The Dutra Group failed to honor its legal obligations, requiring the filing of a salvage claim. A three-member Boat US arbitration panel awarded Winslow’s client the full amount of damages prayed for, along with interest and attorney’s fees.
